The Grant Williams Podcast with Demetri Kofinas: The Hundred Year Pivot – Episode Four: Dr. Pippa Malmgren
If you don’t remember, I first introduced Dr. Malmgren right after the November election in my article “And Now For Something Completely Different... Dr. Pippa Malmgren's Perspective on what just happened.” If you have the time, click into that article now to re-read it, as it will give you a foundation for the evolution of her thoughts on the topics she has covered in her articles and interview above, some of which I summarize below.
II. How do internal conflicts within the U.S. reflect the primary battle between the Deep State and Trump's anti-establishment administration?
Dr. Malmgren highlights a critical, largely covert battle occurring within the U.S. itself—between entrenched "deep-state" entities and the Trump administration’s anti-establishment approach. This internal conflict profoundly shapes America’s foreign and domestic policy. Trump's explicit confrontation with established institutions, including intelligence agencies, underscores a significant power shift aiming to dismantle deeply rooted institutional power structures that have historically dictated U.S. policy directions, especially in geopolitical hotspots.
She further argues that the Trump administration’s strategy involves openly challenging established intelligence and military frameworks, exemplified by restructuring agencies such as the CIA. Trump's move to strip the CIA’s influence, notably through officials like Tulsi Gabbard, aims to realign intelligence operations with presidential policy goals rather than institutional inertia or agendas. This battle indicates Trump's broader strategy—leveraging executive power and public opinion to disrupt the longstanding institutional hegemony that Malmgren calls the "American warlords."
Malmgren observes how Trump's domestic strategies correlate directly with international strategies, where he is garnering support from former international adversaries. Trump’s alignment with figures previously seen as geopolitical rivals—such as leaders from Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran—reflects an unconventional approach to weakening his internal adversaries, whom he identifies as the primary sources of global instability.
III. What role do global alliances play in Trump’s fight against the Deep State?
Dr. Malmgren emphasizes Trump's strategic cultivation of unconventional global alliances as a vital component of his struggle against the American deep state. Trump’s foreign policy pivots towards forming alliances with historical adversaries, suggesting a calculated effort to isolate and challenge domestic adversaries entrenched in U.S. institutional power. For example, the normalization of relationships with nations like Iran, Syria, and Qatar, driven by practical negotiations and peace agreements, strategically undercuts the traditional deep-state policy of perpetuating regional conflicts.
She also points to Trump’s relationships with global leaders like Putin, whose interests align in challenging the established international order and institutions that represent the deep state’s global influence. Trump’s administration leverages these global relationships to counter internal opposition by showcasing diplomacy and international collaboration successes, undermining narratives perpetuated by traditional intelligence and foreign policy apparatuses.
Moreover, Malmgren highlights that Trump's alignment with global peace movements and religious leaders builds broader international support, thereby increasing pressure on entrenched domestic entities resistant to his policies. These alliances provide moral and political legitimacy to his agenda, complicating efforts by the deep state to maintain their influence and operational narratives.
IV. How does Malmgren interpret the current geopolitical tensions involving Ukraine, NATO, and Russia in the context of the internal U.S. power struggle?
Malmgren interprets the escalation of tensions between NATO, Ukraine, and Russia as profoundly intertwined with the internal U.S. power struggle between Trump’s administration and the deep state. She suggests the intensified conflict in Ukraine, particularly with NATO’s escalated involvement, reflects efforts by certain U.S. factions to perpetuate global instability, thereby undermining Trump’s anti-establishment diplomacy.
According to Malmgren, internal factions opposed to Trump use geopolitical crises to divert attention, resources, and political capital away from domestic restructuring efforts. Western powers' decision to escalate their involvement in Ukraine through advanced weaponry coincided suspiciously with significant electoral shifts favoring Trump's "no more forever wars" policy, indicating a deliberate internal attempt to sabotage Trump’s anti-war stance and reassert the deep-state’s militaristic agenda.
This analysis positions the Ukraine conflict as a proxy for the more significant domestic battle within the U.S., with international implications that extend beyond Eastern Europe. Malmgren suggests that understanding this internal dynamic is critical for comprehending NATO's current policies, which may seem counterintuitive or counterproductive without the domestic political context.
V. How are technological advancements like AI weaponized within the internal U.S. battle?
Malmgren notes the critical role that technological advancements and artificial intelligence play in the internal U.S. conflict, particularly as tools leveraged by both Trump’s administration and the deep state. AI-driven military and surveillance technologies are used strategically by opposing factions within U.S. institutions, exemplified by autonomous surveillance systems and advanced cyber capabilities, potentially utilized to sabotage diplomatic or domestic policy initiatives by adversarial internal entities.
The Trump administration’s push for AI regulation and governance reforms can also be seen as a preemptive strike against established bureaucratic control mechanisms. This strategy aims to decentralize and disrupt existing power structures, unilaterally reducing the deep state’s capacity to influence policy through technological dominance. The administration’s advocacy for transparent governance through technology, notably AI, symbolizes its broader agenda to dismantle entrenched bureaucratic control.
Moreover, Malmgren identifies the broader implications of AI in governance and regulatory frameworks globally. Trump’s support for innovative regulatory models involving AI challenges entrenched bureaucratic norms, signaling a strategic push towards decentralization and transparency. Such moves could redefine institutional power and administrative oversight parameters, significantly impacting the deep state’s historical reliance on centralized and opaque governance structures.
VI. How significant are religious and spiritual alliances in Trump's strategy against the U.S. deep state?
Malmgren emphasizes the critical significance of religious and spiritual alliances as strategic assets in Trump's internal battle against the deep state. Trump's domestic and international outreach to religious and spiritual communities gives him critical leverage against traditional establishment factions. These alliances serve practical and symbolic roles, building broad coalitions that undermine the deep state’s secular frameworks.
She further notes Trump’s use of religious diplomacy to legitimize his peace initiatives and undercut traditional foreign policy narratives perpetuated by deep-state factions. Aligning with influential spiritual leaders and movements, Trump bolsters his international image as a peace advocate, significantly weakening opposition efforts to frame his administration negatively on global platforms.
Additionally, Malmgren argues that these spiritual alliances enable Trump to appeal directly to broad swathes of the global population, providing an influential base of moral authority. This strategic use of spiritual diplomacy places the deep state’s more secular, bureaucratic methods at a distinct disadvantage, enabling Trump to effectively redefine the geopolitical and domestic political landscape.
VII. How does Malmgren perceive India-Pakistan relations and their global implications within the U.S. deep-state struggle?
Malmgren sees Indo-Pakistan relations as reflecting deeper, complex interactions influenced by the U.S. deep state's historical meddling and Trump's emerging anti-establishment policy. The contradictions in U.S. policies, such as funding terrorist groups in Pakistan while publicly condemning them, illustrate deep-state manipulation intended to sustain regional instability.
As exemplified by significant economic and geopolitical engagements, Trump's pivot toward India directly challenges the deep state’s traditional policy strategies. By supporting India’s development into a manufacturing and geopolitical powerhouse, Trump strategically undercuts longstanding deep state regional strategies.
Furthermore, Malmgren notes that Trump's engagement with India is part of a broader geopolitical realignment aimed at stabilizing critical regions by supporting powerful, independent allies. This approach contrasts sharply with deep-state tactics that historically sought to control regional dynamics through instability and dependency. It significantly alters global geopolitical alignments and reduces avenues for deep-state manipulation.
VIII. What are the implications of recent revelations about historical intelligence activities and their impact on public trust and policy?
Dr. Malmgren addresses the profound implications of recent revelations concerning intelligence activities, particularly highlighting controversial historical operations involving the U.S. intelligence community. She discusses instances such as the alleged protection of Bin Laden by certain factions within U.S. intelligence, suggesting complicity and covert arrangements that starkly contrast official narratives. These revelations have intensified public skepticism, contributing to widespread distrust towards governmental institutions and their stated intentions.
The exposure of internal conflicts and contradictory actions within intelligence agencies further compounds the challenge of maintaining public trust and coherent national security policies. Malmgren points out that such internal divisions, underscored by factionalism and conflicting loyalties, severely undermine the effectiveness of intelligence operations and the credibility of government communication. This loss of public confidence can cripple policy-making processes, complicating efforts to achieve unified responses to national and international crises.
Finally, Malmgren underscores the broader societal and political ramifications of these disclosures. She emphasizes that public disillusionment and cynicism toward governmental actions and intelligence narratives threaten democratic stability and policy legitimacy. In her view, these revelations necessitate a comprehensive reevaluation of intelligence practices, accountability mechanisms, and transparency, which are crucial for restoring trust and ensuring more robust governance and public cooperation in the future.
IX. What does The X Project Guy have to say?
These ideas have been brewing for some time, and I have read each of Dr. Malmgren’s articles as they have been published, going back to December. I initially thought this was all a little far-fetched and on the fringe of possibility. But as each article was published and I clicked on the referenced links in her articles, I became more convinced that all of this is not only possible, but probable and highly so, especially after all that happened this past week.
I understand the emotional, psychological, and intellectual challenges many will face in considering and, even more so, in believing this. To those having trouble with all of this, I only ask that you take several deep breaths and keep trying. And the biggest advice I can offer is to step back and look at where we are from the broadest possible historical perspective, and read “The Fourth Turning is Here: What the Seasons of History Tell Us about How and When This Crisis Will End - A summary of the book written by Neil Howe (2023). And then also read the actual book.
X. Why should you care?
EVERYTHING is changing—fast and accelerating. This is what happens in Fourth Turnings. There will be a lot of fear, anxiety, doubt, anger, hopelessness, and many other negative emotions on a personal and social level.
I am hopeful and optimistic for the future because I know winter will turn to spring, and there will be a First Turning. My daughter is 13 years old and will enter adulthood as we turn to spring. However, metaphorically speaking, it is only late January or early February. We live in Chicago and still have a brutal month or two that will likely be the worst of winter, and she will have to experience and learn from what is to come.
For our personal well-being and that of our families and communities, I encourage you to ground yourself in this perspective. It not only helps explain what is happening and why, but it will also help you be prepared for the unexpected and unpredictable turn of events over the next several years.

Why I love getting a women's perspective on things. Women grow up learning and become very good at developing their BS indicator. They can smell BS from someone or something usually much quicker than a man can.
Dr Pippa does this all the time. Been reading her for years. I can't wait for the times her stuff comes out.
